The Restless Naturalist is a repository of creative nonfiction (and sometimes a little poetry), born out of a curiosity for the world around us, for the ways we connect with it, and how we express those connections. There will be travel stories, profiles of interesting critters, book recommendations, and musings on what it means to be a human writing about it all. Absolutely no AI. If you like what you read, stick around, there’ll be more.
I’m originally from New Zealand, and have worked broadly in the environmental sector for most of the last decade, with experience across government, NGOs and the private sector. At various times, I’ve also been a waitress, a bookseller, and a farm hand. I’ve harvested potatoes, guided horse treks, and worked as a gardener. I have lived in three countries, travelled to over twenty, and moved house nearly thirty times in as many years. My favorite place is anywhere on a bicycle.
I am the recipient of the 2023 Waterston Desert Writing Prize and my writing has been published in Wilderness magazine and the anthology True Travel Tales. I am currently writing my first book, a literary travel memoir about cycling across the United States. (If you are an agent or a publisher I’d love to hear from you.)
